The article deals with: a) the definition of the word apothetai, as an archaeological term, associated with specific, ritual, depositional processes, which differ from dispose and storage activities, b) the formation processes of the so - called «selective» deposits usually located within the apothetai, c) the typology of Minoan apothetai and d) their possible function and relation with the peak sanctuaries, the caves, the kouloures as well as specific features of Minoan architecture like «lustral basins» and «pillar rooms».
